Az Oxfordi Egyetem a világ legrégebbi angol nyelvű egyeteme és Nagy-Britannia első egyeteme. Az Egyesült Királyság egyetemi rangsorában az első helyen áll, és világszerte az első 5 legjobb egyetem között szerepel. Oxford világszínvonalú kutatóközpont. Egykori diákjai között 27 brit miniszterelnök, 30 világvezető és 50 Nobel-díjas szerepel.

Az egyetem fő jellemzője az egyedülálló oktatási rendszer, amelyet az úgynevezett "tutorialok" jellemeznek - a heti rendszerességű, egyéni (vagy kis csoportokban tartott) találkozások a tutorral, amelyek a kötelező irodalom elolvasásából és esszéírásból állnak. A tutoriálok mellett előadásokat és szemináriumokat is tartanak. Az egyetem 38 kollégiumból áll, és minden hallgatót ezek egyikébe osztanak be. Az egyetemre a világ több mint 138 országából érkeznek diákok, a legtöbben az USA-ból, Kínából, Németországból, Kanadából és Indiából. Az Oxfordban végzettek 95%-a a diploma megszerzését követő 6 hónapon belül elhelyezkedik a szakmájában.
